100% unofficial... for now anyway.
In a vain attempt to accomplish some of my short term life goals I created a bucket list to hopefully inspire me.  Number 20 on that list was to wear a homemade T-shirt to a gig.  One of my favourite unsigned acts at the moment is 'Land of the Giants' and as they were playing at a local bars 'St. Pirans Ale Festival' I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to dig out the slightly neglected lino cutters, cross something off the list, catch some awesome live music and have a little to much ale (really who can resist a swift half of Proper Job).

It was a great night out with a close mate and has made me really enthusiastic to pursue some of the more ambitious design tasks on the bucket list.

Building on my last post, I decided to enter a competition to win the chance to have my work displayed on an ep under Record Store Day's 'Secret 7'promotion.  The details of the competition can be read here.

This is the design I entered:

I could really use your support, so if you like it, vote by following this link and clicking 'vote'.

Recently I've been trying to incorporate my print work into larger more one-off projects.  Consequently when I was forwarded an email offering the chance to compete for the opportunity to have Healey's Cornish Cyder use your designs for their in-pub point of sales displays, it was a project I couldn't pass up.  This is the layout sheet I submitted:

I know I'll face some stiff competition but having worked so hard on my designs and this being the first time I've worked to a companies brief, I'm just really pleased to have had the opportunity and am very proud of the outcome.

Saturday marks the beginning of the 90th exhibition if the Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society at the Burton Art Gallery, Bideford.  It's had a great feature in The Gazette and is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

I've recently been working on a coloured print to enter for consideration of the Westward Ho! and Bideford Art Society's annual exhibition.  This time lapse shows it's progress.

Throughout the course of the project I had several registration issues.  However, overall I am pleased with the outcome of the final print.

Today is the first day of the 'Appledore and Instow Regatta', in my home town of Appledore.  Over today and tomorrow their will be an 'Art & Craft' fair in Appledore Hall featuring many local artists.  I am displaying some of my work and have contributed a raffle prize.  If you're in the area it is definitely worth coming down to enjoy the week long festivities and supporting some local talent.

Here's a photo of my pitch...

I will admit the rather spiffy gold paper was a last minute addition when I rocked up without a table cloth...  Oops.

As you may have noticed it is exactly one month until Christmas day and I am more than a bit excited.  So in preparation for the big day I am posting the card design I made especially for my friends and family last year.  MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Anyone in the Bideford area from today until the 18th December should check out The Burton Art Gallery.  The 'Annual Open Exhibition' always provides an interesting mix of styles and media from local artists.

April 2011

I was asked to create a logo for the aspiring comedians at 'A is for Anarchy'.  The basic brief was to produce a fun and playful design which would be easily recognisable when reduced to be viewed on an ipod screen and could work in a minimal colour scheme.  I decided on the image of the apple associated with the children's phonetic alphabet, as not only could this be used to create a bold logo but would also be in keeping with the name of the company. I felt using the apple core would give more of an anarchic effect and provided the required depth of texture necessary in creating a successful Lino-print.  I then coupled this with a particularly striking and clear font.  Finally I used Photoshop to layer the handwritten 'Anarchy' featuring the classic 'Anarchy is the Mother of Order' symbol.  The use of lined notepaper and felt-tip pen was to give the finished product a juvenile and handmade feel, whilst the use of red ink makes a bold statement against the otherwise monochrome design.
